My barred rock walks herself into a corner and sets there like she's being punished. Walks funny like maybe she's constipated. I pick her up and her abdomen feels real full, soft. Could she be packed full of eggs that aren't moving???

well, I got no replies to this post, and sadly my BR is now gone, but I found an Avian vet and took her there. She was NOT egg bound. I was told her abdomen was full of fluid which sometimes occurs when they get a tumor in their reproductive organs. There was nothing that could be done so I opted to have her put down. DANG!! $89.50. Next time I will just shoot them with a 22 out behind the barn myself. Thats ALOT of money. My dog vet doesn't get near that much when they put a large dog down.

I am sorry you lost your hen and very sorry you didn't get any replies to this thread. From what the Vet told you there may not have been a single thing that anyone could have done to help your bird, but we should have been there for you. Just some advice, if in the future you need help and do not receive a reply, post again on the same thread. This will bring the thread to the top of the list. With all kinds of new chicken owners joining right now, sometimes threads can be lost due to the sheer volume of threads being posted.

thank you so much for writing. I did everything I could find to do for her, soaking her in warm water to help her relax, which she did by the way, but nothing ever passed of course. Massage. Even tried lubing her vent with veggie oil and my finger wrapped in Saran Wrap, TWICE. The poor angel. I miss her.

I know it's very hard but sometimes it really is beyond us. I've got a link here for you. It's about my goose Lucy and what I did for her and more importantly, what I would have done if it had become necessary. Goose, chicken, doesn't matter, the treatment would be the same.

Again, I am so very sorry you lost her.
