I have just hatched my first chicks from a broody cochin, and she's such a good mom. This has been a slow slow hatch. They were due (21 days) monday the first didn't pip until day 22 and was out and dry yesterday morning. There were more eggs piped so I let it be. This morning which is day 24, 5 are out, one still a little wet and one that had piped last night has yet to zip. I can hear it peeping so it's just a matter of time. The last egg (there were 7) has no pip and no sound inside so I candled it and the air sack is very visable and I don't see any movement at all. It was okay at day 18 when I candled them. Should I leave it or pull it out is my question? My hen, Starlight is looking tired, she has her eyes closed alot so I don't want her sitting and waiting for an egg to hatch that isn't.
I can't believe how I'm worring over all this, I feel like an expectant grandmother! I guess I am LOL. I'm so proud of my new little babys. Three of the baby's are Americauna's I took her eggs to hatch. Two of them are a mixture of Americauna's and Belgian Bearded d'Uccles. I have the one more Americauna to hatch.
This has been so exciting and I have learned so much from this website and all you experienced chicken people. Thanks so much!
