is this pox and what can i do

What kind of bird is this? How long has this been going on and do any other birds have it. It looks like the top of the beak is bent down a bit. Is it soft or spongy or is this just the way the beak is?

This bird looks very sick to me. The skin and eye condition doesn't look good and the open mouth is another bad sign. Are you doing anything right now to treat them?

Can you post another picture showing more of the bird? I'm not sure if this is fowl pox or not.

I'm not sure what type of poultry that is, but it does appear very sick, and with lesions that appear to be fowl pox. I've not seen fowl pox in person, only pictures of it. From what I have read, I do believe they start as raised areas similar to a bug bite, and then blister, drain, and dry up. IF that's what you're dealing with, the good news it it appears to be in the last stages of the disease, and will soon be on the mend.

There's a sticky at the top of this forum that ask some basic questions that will help us to help you. If you could answers those questions it would really help!

In the mean time, make sure you have this one, and any others that look like this separated from any other birds you own. If it's contagious, we'd like to try to prevent it from going through your whole flock.

Is it eating ok? Pooping ok? Any others showing the same signs? How long has it had symptoms?

Again, we're here to try to HELP, and not condemn anyone. I hope you stay around and get to know us a bit more.

the bird is a young turkey the beak is normal
they have just really started to loose all the fuzz on there head
he is in a pen with two hens that appear normal the fuzz on there head is also splotchy but if they have the same condition it is not near as bad
i dont realy want to cull him for if this is foul pox wich i think it is it will go away without lasting effects i think
i saw the wart like things but remeber it is a turkey they have bumps and such on there head a neck
the ones on the beak and eye have not been there but a day or so i saw them yesterday evening
the turkeys are kept in there own pen
however in my chicken pen a month or so i saw my barred rock rooster had what looked to be ant bites on his cone and wattles
this pen is about 50 yards away from the turkeys
in looking up fowl pox i saw a picture of a chicken with pox that looked similar to the barred rock rooster
i didnt know this at the time i thought it was just ants
the barred rock went away in about a week or so and there is no evidence of the bite now
i read the foul pox is transmitted from mosquitoes
i was hopeing to get a conformation on this
if it is not pox he probably should be culled
thought maybe someone has seen it before

1) What type of bird , age and weight.
turkey born 4/23/2009 about 6or7 pounds est
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
the turkey was pecking at his legs to the extent of making sores
and is now scratching at wart like lesions on its eye and beak
3) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
only bleeding was self induced from pecking and scratcking
4) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
i suspect foul pox
5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all
the bird eats and drinks. and roost normal
6) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.

7) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
started on its legs by turkey pecking skin off legs in spots
vasaline perroxide liquid bandage the best i found was to clean sores and wrap legs loosly to keep turkey from pecking
legs are healed up but still have to bangage to keep from pecking sores again
8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
treat myself if posable do not wish to cull only if necessary
9) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.

the turkey is on the ground with grass and dirt floor and wooden roost

Why no pics of the legs? You mention the legs have sores also? Can you get pics of the legs please?
