I got these two chicks from the feed store. I've had a frizzle before but it never had such stringy feathers like this one. Could it be a mix?

Thanks.

From what I understand... thin feathers are just an undesirable trait. Nothing you can do about it in the bird that has it. But you certainly wouldn't want to use for breeding. But, it makes no difference for a pet chicken

Our roo we got, Spaghetti, has feathers like that. His primary wing fathers are just shafts. Doesn't effect his ability to be a sweet roo..... but a word of warning...when they flap those wings, it can really catch ya if they are too close to your skin or face..... those shafts HURT!

Cant tell from your picture, but it maybe what is refered to as a curly. Both of their feather genes are frizzle. Where a normal frizzled bird only carries one frizzle gene. JMHO

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking it was just a poor breed of frizzle. I had two frizzles before but they were so mean I had to get rid of them. So far this one is sweet but it is still young.

The way frizzle genes work (to my knowledge) is that you can't get a partially frizzled specimen. Even if you breed a frizzled bird to another frizzle about 25% of the offspring won't be frizzled. And frizzles are not a breed in there own right but a feather variation within breeds.

You are partially correct. But you do not want to breed two frizzled birds together mostly because of the reason that you can end up with offspring that can carry both frizzle genes which causes the birds feathers to be very brittle.
