I hope this worked. This is our coop. There is plenty of shade, but the temperature has hit 100 this week right around 2 p.m. They have a waterer, a pan of water, and I throw frozen bottles twice a dayunder the house. At night I place a 1 gallon milk jug in the coop. I have seen them panting in the afternoon. Unfortunately, my freezers are unable to keep up with the bottles (about 15 water bottles, six 2 L bottles, and 1 gallon milk jug). What is the maximum temperature chickens can take?

how long is it in the shade? Loks good to me, sounds like your taking all the precautions. Not sure on heat, have heard different numbers that killed chickens. I think as long as you have plenty of water and shade, they will be ok. Just check on them~ Best of luck

It is never in full sun. That picture is about 11 a.m. The sun moves over the coop about 1 p.m. and then it is back in the shade. We go out about every 2 hours and spray down the yard to keep the ground cool, in addition to water bottles scattered underneath. Was thinking about building the waterer that was on another thread so I can cut back on the number of bottles I am trying to keep frozen. My freezer alarm light has been on all day. With the heat that radiates into my laundry room, it is having a hard time keeping up.

I am seriously considering it. They never go into the coop. The roof is made of the opaque corrugated fiberglass/plastic (?), so it is too warm for them. They stay under the coop and only go in at bedtime from what I have seen.

Only 4 barred rocks, so they have plenty of room (until I walk in, then I need more room cause they are glued to me) and water. Bowl in the house, waterer, and a cake pan full.

Maybe you could hang the waterer outside, but in the shade? Perhaps underneath the coop since you say they don't venture inside during the heat of the day.

Oh, that is where we put the waterer, tucked up underneath the house. I also have their cake pan filled with water under there to soak their feet. Then I have water in the coop, in case someone wakes up thirsty during the night (I'm the only person in the world who thinks they would do that).

Think about chickens in other countries. Do you think that poor farmers in Mexico have misters or a/c for their chickens? No way. If you are providing shade, water and food, they should be good to go. Do not feel to bad, you have to deal with the heat as well. Thank god summer does not last forever. Florida has been crazy hot this year.
