We’ve been soaking her underside in warm water and epsom alt for about 30 minutesIt appears that there is a lot of poop caked around her vent.
@azygous @Eggcessive @Wyorp Rock @casportpony @Texas Kiki @Hen Pen Jem can you guys help?
She’d been soaking for about 30 minutes before these pictures. Should we keep her inside tonight?It may be a prolapsed vent. Can you bring her inside where it is warm and give her a warm soak in water with either Epsom salts, or soapy water? Try to clean off any poop or crust. Her vent area looks bulging, so check to see if she is egg bound or just constipated with dried up droppings blocking her vent. If possible, take a picture of the cleaned up vent. Dry her with a hair dryer.
She’s 3 years, I don’t think she’s been laying , alothoigh all of our chickens have slowed down since the cold season.Do you know if she has been laying eggs recently? How old is she? Here is a good article to read about prolapses:

If it is a prolapsed vent, any red tissue sticking out should be kept moist with oil, vaseline, or honey.
