Is this her tail necrotic or is this some kind of growth or something

She still seems the same. Epsom salt soaks daily, extra calcium and dusting with permethrin. Her abdomen is swollen. She is still eating and drinking. What do I do now? I don’t want her to suffer.

When you kept her in the house overnight did she poop? It may be time to put her down and end her suffering.

You could try draining some fluid from her abdomen with a 16 or 18 gauge sterile needle after disinfecting her lower abdomen. That sometimes helps relieve pressure and pain, and may need to be done periodically.

Is she eating and drinking? Does she seem to enjoy being around the other chickens? If she seems to be suffering, you might want to decide to put her down at some point. Ascites is a collection of yellow fluid from the abdomen due to either heart failure, but very common with egg yolk peritonitis or cancer. Draining does not cure it, but is a temporary relief.

So it seems that you are saying this is likely going to kill her and at this point she is just suffering. Even though I am a nurse, I don’t want to drain ascites as a temporary solution. It sounds like you guys think this ISNT EGG BOUND and like the peritonitis that really isn’t curable. This makes me so sad. She is like a pet to us. The sweetest chicken ever.
