Is this just me?

Wow! Thank you all for your time and concern. I have purchased different breeds from this breeder, and I don't think I'll be asking her about if she's had many deaths because that feels too confrontational. Plus, I'm not certain I'd get a straight answer. I'm definitely going to do a postmortem on the next one! I didn't realize it was that easy. I'm located in Florida, near Punta Gorda. Joydix - mareks definitely seems possible given that they keep dying at that age. I'll look further into that disease now, I hadn't even considered it.

Thank you all so much!

She may have marek disease on her property. Very common where I am. They commonly die 3-4 mos. the disease stays on property for very very long time. If that is what they die from you have it and all your chickens are exposed. It passes to other by airborne dander. A necropsy would tell you. Can not be diagnosed for sure without that. In no California we send to UC Davis. They charge$25. Total steal of the year!!good to know what ails your flock! According to Davis vaccinated birds don’t shed the virus. It’s a chicken Herpe virus. Don’t buy anymore from her. Wait couple months and buy vaccinated chicks only. Keep well away fro flock for 2 weeks til vaccine takes effect. Lots of info online. Not all accurate. I would go to UC Davis website. ONCE VACCINATED supposedly they still have the virus but will die from other things and virus might kick in if they are compromised like from cocci or something else. If it’s mareks I’m very sorry. I
Lost my whole flock of 7 when I first got them. I am VERY careful where I get chicks from and never take other peoples hens. I often batch from eBay eggs or
Local eggs and my nurse daughter vaccinates for me. Hope this helps. Also, clean places can also carry. My place is exceptionally clean. But I still have mareks
OMG I just did quick research on Mareks, and even the first few photos that popped up looked exactly like my pullet did toward the end - she kept dropping her face to the ground and had obvious trouble breathing. She was struggling! We considered putting her out of her misery, and she died while we were standing over her talking about it. I definitely think this is a strong possibility, it fits. Thank you for the heads up! Is it too late to vaccinate the rest of the flock if they weren't vaccinated when I bought them? (She claims she does, but who knows.)

I hope it is not that. Generally my girls are so healthy then it Pops up. Limits what I can do you know? I got
My flock 7 years ago and I have 4 girls that age. So I got some right after deaths pretty much. I have ONE that survived the event. She looks so good! Constantly raking up feathers during molt. I hatch with broody Moms so not getting the two weeks to take effect. Also the ones I hatch and vaccinated aren’t the ones who die🤷‍♀️Point is not the end of the world. Good luck and update us💕💕
