Hi, this is our first year owning chickens and one of our Rhode Island Red hens has this weird thing going with her wing feathers. None of the others seem to be molting and I’m not really sure what this is. Can someone give some assistance?

I can't say for sure that it is do to molt but looks like she lost a few wing feathers. Give some extra protien to help regrowth.

Could you tell us how old this chicken is? And please tell us what concerns you about the wing feathers?
She’s 8 months old. Her wing feathers look separated on one side - like you can fit something between them.

It's not molting. She has a slipped wing. Her primary wing feathers are arranged outside of the secondaries instead of under them, as is usual. It's not uncommon and she otherwise looks very healthy, so there is no need to worry. Probably not a bird to raise chicks from, though.

You can try to gently tuck the primaries under the secondaries, but chances are they will just go back to the way they are.
