One of our hens has been looking strange lately. Her feathers (Which are normaly a beige-ish color) are looking grey and tattered on her back, near her tail. We haven't had her for a year yet, and we've never had chickens before, so we're not too experienced with molting. What does molting look like? Is this molting, or mites, or feather picking? I'll try to get pic's soon.

Here is what a heavy molt looks like.

Is there a roo with the hen? Worn feathers near the tail is usually a sign of an overworked hen.

Molting is when the feather falls out of the quill (the part that holds the feather in the skin). It looks like a dog with mange. I have one molting now and she looks awful.

I don't know, but mine have lost alot of feathers on there backs down to the base of the tail, but mine is from the Roosters. I have too many and there hard on the girls.
