Hi there! I'm hoping someone can give me some guidance. We are doing our second hatch and one of our chicks pipped last night and still hadn't hatched this evening so I removed a tiny bit of the shell and found that it was shrink-wrapped. The membrane was extremely dry so after watching many videos I made the decision to help him. I was able to help him hatch successfully but he doesn't look right to me. I've attached a picture. Please tell me if this is Mushy chick disease and if so, what I can do to save him. Thank you so much.

Okay! So it is Mushy Chick disease or just an opened navel?
It's too hard to say for sure. Sometimes they hatch like that and don't get an infection, other times they will get an infection. For the next 24-48 you're do your best to keep it in a clean, dry place, like a cup of Tupperware with a paper towel. Hopefully it will finish closing and not get infected. :fl
