Hey guys. Today I was giving the girls a cold treat because of this heat wave when I spotted one of my RIRs had a spot near her crop with no feathers that looked a bit irritated. Did she just lose some feathers and some dirt rubbed on it or something? She's the dominant hen* so I know she didn't get pecked.
* and a jerk

Here are some pics:

(in the second picture down below, it's the top patch. The bottom one is where I parted her feathers so you could see better.)

I'll be happy to take some new pictures/do some editing if necessary - she wouldn't sit still :)

Has she recently been broody? if so she might take a few weeks, well, (not many) to recover. She could be molting like someone said above. Or parasites, but her skin looks clean so I doubt it.

No, she's never been broody either. Fingers crossed it's molting - like I mentioned it's been very hot here and it's been a while for her :)

Okay. Yeah, I think she is fine. :) I have a Black Australorp hen that has that, she always has. But surprisingly it's simply because she's small. :D
