I'll be honest, I can't see it do anything but turn its head to the side. Can you describe what it's doing? Is there anywhere to get away from the heat in the brooder? What's the floor temps in the light?
 
He opens his mouth and his throat vibrates, but he's not making any noise. I did raise the heat lamp and he has a little cardboard box house I made for him.

Does it have any friends? Is it started pecking at feed and drinking yet? Seen any droppings? Until I actively see all those things, I don't count my chicks. :fl

What you describe and what I little I did see in that video looked essentially like a burp. Chickens do burp. :confused:

I did not see what appeared to be open mouth panting as they tend to do when they get to toasty.

He is the only one that hatched out of 12. It is day 23, so I'm giving the others a little more time before I give up. I haven't seen him eat, but I did put his beak in the water and saw him drink. He is just so lonely and cries very loudly for such a little chick.

How is he doing today? Without friends.. you might need to run your finger through the feed to interest him. Or pick up tiny pieces and drop in his visual field to attract his attention. Use high pitched "look babe, look!" like his mama would. It's called tidbitting.

Single chicks are very lonely and need us often! You might be able to find a friend at one of the feed stores. In my area, they all start getting chicks the first week of Feb.

If that was shipped eggs... hatch rates can be so challenging. If those were local or yours... and you want help with diagnosing fertility or incubation issues, explanation for quitters according to which day it was starts around page 52 of this fantastic resource...

Crushing the feed crumbles MORE made the difference between life and death for many of my bantams.. once someone told me about it. :)
