Our duck is about 4-5 weeks old and we just got him, occansionaly he opens his mouth and makes no noise..almost like he is breathing threw his mouth. Is this normal or something to worry about???

My ducks do this all of the time... not sure if it is normal or not but they are 8 months old and they are healthy so I am thinking it is nothing to worry about, unless someone with more experience steps in and says it is.

If it is just occasional, opening the mouth, maybe stretching the neck a little, and then returning to normal, ducks do that regularly. It looks to me like they are clearing their little ears, like I do when in an airplane taking off or landing, or driving up into the mountains.

If the duck is panting, it is either very nervous or too warm or both.

It may be a male, and they don't make much noise and it is more of a whispery sound when they do. It is those females who QUACK QUACK QUACK all the time.
