IMG_3417.JPG IMG_3417.JPG IMG_3418.JPG We lost a hen a few days ago and I noticed this poop today! I am new to chickens but this looks like diarrhea to me. Any input would be appreciated. Don't want to lose another one. No other symptoms.

How old are your chickens?
What is your weather like?
What exactly do they eat each day? (Complete feed only...treats..free range?)

Hi @Mango's mom

I'm sorry to hear you lost a hen this week. I quickly glanced at that thread to see what may have happened. There is no way to know for sure without necropsy, but she may have suffered heat stroke.

As for your poop photos - they look like cecal poop to me. Since you are experiencing hot weather, they may be slightly looser than normal, but can range in size, texture and color. A chicken poops a cecal poop about 1 out of every 8-10 "normal" poops.

It is very good that you are keeping watch on the poop. Sometimes it's the first thing to tell us something is off.

I hope the rest of your girls remain happy and healthy.

Here's some poop photos for you:)
