Can you not eat eggs that are laid within two weeks of finishing anyy start and grow medicated?

if I have a chicken who lays before all the others (I have five) do I give them all layer food? Do I start giving it to them before they lay? (they are 16 weeks, one is 17)

I too have a question... I have some chickens at 17 weeks and laying and others in the pen at 12/14 weeks should I geve them a "mix" of starter/layer feed? or should I just switch to layer feed? I appreciate advise thanks

I would just switch them to layers. For the 12-14 weeks old it may slow growth by a couple weeks but it's much safer then eating eggs from hens that ate medicated feed.Just what I have done though.I haven't had any problems.

The medicated starter feed doesn't have anti-biotics in them. The meds in it aren't supposed to be bad for us but i'm waiting for a little while. Mine are still laying little pullet eggs but they are getting bigger. After the first week i'm gonna start eating them. Good Luck

How soon is it safe to start chickens on a layer diet? I have mixed ages. 18 wks and 9 wks. I have been told that extra calcium in layer feed may not be good for the younger hens. What to do?!

Yeah it could lead to kidney failure is what I was told.It will slow the growth because of the low protein level.Go the safe route, grower and on the side offer oyster shell.
