Is this safe for my ducks

What antibiotics did they put her on?

-Kathy

They put her on fluconazole 100mg, panacur, and metronidazole 250mg. My husband bought wazine so I have that on hand. Should I return that and purchase safeguard? I put Apple cidar vinager in their water tonight. Thanks for your help Kathy!

Okay... The fluconazole will treat any yeast and the metronidazole will treat gram positive bacterial infections, I think... Did the vet say why they chose metronidazole?

Wazine can be used in the water, but it will only treat large round worms. How much Panacur did they give your sick duck?

Vet said she had bacteria in her. She was pooping only clear poops that look like the white part of an egg. Sometimes it would just hang out her bottom. She started sleeping back in the coop. She does better with the rest of them and so do they. They were all raised together. She still isn't laying and I've been worked no the past 2 days so not sure what the poops look like today. There were 4 syringes of dewormer but I didn't look to see how much. She is forging a lot today but still looks weak. I haven't seen her eat any of her layer crumble.

Quote: Four syringes of wormer? Does that mean that you gave some 4 days in a row and that the vet gave one syringe? I ask because that's usually how I do it.

Call your vet and ask what type of bacteria they are targeting and ask them why they chose metronidazole. Metronidazole is something I use when I suspect clostridium perfringens, but I use Baytril if I suspect E. coli.

Yes she had four syringes of dewormer all were premeasured so I didn't have to measure anything. She had dewormer 4 days in a row in 4 different syringes. Vet said she doesn't quite remember what type of bacteria she had but she thought maybe rods. She treated her with that medication because that's where her colleague and her decided to do. She was treated for Yeast because she had a tad of yeast and the medication for bacteria would create more yeast. The stool sample came back negative. She's not very knowledgeable about ducks but she is trying the best she can to help me. I also can't afford a vet that's why I reached out to this site because you have helped me before. I really appreciate your help.

Chicken or duck, cat or dog, bacteria and yeast are the same, so I trust that your vets picked the drugs they thought would work best. Multiple days of worming are also what's needed when using Panacur or Safeguard in ducks, chickens, geese, peafowl, turkeys, etc.

Coccidiosis is not as common in ducks, but it is a possibility. Do you have any Corid? Corid is one that can be given with metronidazole.

I do not have corid. Where can I get corid and baytril so I have it on hand?

You can get amprolium (Corid, Amprol or AmproMed) at most feed stores. It's usually found in the cattle section. Liquid or powder, either can be used.

Baytril (enrofloxacin) you have to buy online or from a vet. Google Baytril for birds or just Enfloxil, either should come up with lots of choices. I like the 10% injectable... it can be given orally or by injection.

I found baytril on dr fosters and smith website. There is a 22.7mg, 68mg, or 136mg, taste tab chew tablet. What strength and do you have a preference where to buy? I haven't come across the injection yet but I'm still looking.
