Is this silver button quail a male or female?

What can I do to increase the protein so?
I just can't order this food, because it would be a ''little'' hard to ship it to Brazil...

Well, giving them egg is good. Oh, and mealworms! If you don't want to deal with live ones, you might be able to buy freeze dried ones. And mine loved live crickets! He was in a cage that was enclosed with screen on the top, though, so if yours are in a cage with wire on the sides that wouldn't work. Don't use wild bugs, though, because pesticides or whatever else they could crawl through could hurt the quail. I'm not sure if regular earthworms (the ones sold for fishing with) have much protein, but I do know that they would have fun with them

Oyster shell, too. You can probably add a little finely ground oyster shell to their food, and it would also add calcium.
I didn't have to think of too many ways to add protein, though, because I had higher protein feed and also I only had a laying hen for a couple weeks before the stupid male killed her

I don't have any problem with worms! At school I used to take care of the earthworms boxes, and a few months ago I had some mealworms for my cockatiels. They really love mealworms! I'll try to have some mealworms to restart my mealworms culture. I don't think oyster sheel would increase the protein level, but the calcium it would. My quails aren't in a cage. They live in the ground of my cockatiel's aviary, so sometimes they eat some ants that apear there. I give them some seeds too, like millet and birdseeds. They seem to like it!

I had mine in the bottom of my parakeets' flight cage for a couple years before moving him to the old lizard cage, he seemed to love their leftovers. I didn't know cockatiels liked mealworms, cool! My cockatiel seems to hate everything (including apple, which my sun conure goes crazy for!), but maybe she'll like that. Of course, if she doesn't like them, I have a gecko who would be more than willing to help "recycle" them

If you can give them mealworms often, that would probably be really good. Maybe you could also dust them in calcium powder made for reptiles?

This cockatiel eats mealworms because since she was a baby, i gave her the worms, but the others thar aren't used to eat the mealworms, they freak out when see anything new in the cage! Sun conures are just amazing! In my granparents farm, every year a couple of green conures reproduce there. Every year about 3 ou 4 green conures born there. I really love parrots, any kind of them: the australians parakeets, cockatiels, red rumpeds, ring necks, conures...And now I'm starting with the quails, and I'm already addicted to them! I'll restart my mealworm box, but it will take some months until I can give them almost daily or at least 3 times a week. About the calcium, I'm giving egg shells with the food, and it will be a little hard to find this powder in Brasil as lizards aren't common pets here... Just the egg shells are enought, don't they?

Conures are awesome. Once I was feeding the lizards and Mr. Bird decided to play with a cricket. He picked it up, carried it into his cage, realized it wasn't food, dropped it, and then went to eat his own food

I'm getting kinda nervous!
They're already 70 days and any sign of egg... Here we are at summer, abou 12/13 hours of light per day... A frind of mine is with button quails laying eggs and mine just don't.
What can I do for estimulate them to lay eggs?

I live ina city and my quail stay in my parents home about 700 miles away, so I only see them twice a year...

I'm to notice that the quail is a MALE. I have two CPQ, they're about 6 months old and till now there isn't any egg... And now the silver's quail collar is really whiter than it was some months ago...
Now I'll have to look for more 2 quails!

Well, sorry for digging up the thread again! But I have another new: it's a FEMALE! I arrived home this Monday and when I looked in theid cage, the femele was lieing on her four eggs! Now I'm waiting to see if I'll have any chick. Do have any suggestion for thow to feed them batter than just the parents food? Is there something extra that I should give them? Any extra care?

just be sure the fed is ground up well they have tiny beaks and cannot eat the larger crumbles and no seeds until they are 5 weeks or so. be sure you have a brooder setup so if the parents try to hurt the chicks you can move them to a brooder. do not be surprised if the female does not sit and hatch the eggs it happens more than they do. good luck and hope you have chicks in 16-19 days!
