My latest thread was me trying to figure out what's wrong with my hen and I searched stuff about crops. Well I was feeling her crop and it's bug like a water balloon and squishy and my other hen same breed as her has a tiny one so I was like hers is not normal. Shes eating and drinking and ate some calcium but what do I do? Or is it even sour crop?? Someone help me. I read stuff about it just now and she doesnt have any bad breath nor diarrhea. I'm going to wait until morning and feel it again. If it's not flat or at least smaller than I should know right?

Mine eat & drink before dusk so their crops are full when I check on everyone & close the coop before dark. Some crops are full & firm and some are full and squishy as they drank alot too, but by morning all are empty, and I get to scoop poop under their night perches...so they digested dinner & crops are flat before breakfast.
Hopefully, yours will be as well.
No other signs bird may not feel well? Pale comb? Drooping wings, just not usual upbeat energetic self? Eyes not alert or labored breathing? How about molting, rough molt or doing ok? Walking alright or gimpy limpy?
If other than a full mushy crop, and all else seems ok, see how bird is in the morning

Sour crop usually has a weird fermentation odor when you smell the bird's breath, so if you didn't smell anything sour, that could be a good sign & the bird is fine, or...it has something going on but you've caught it early...let's see what morning brings.

You have a few threads going on, so hopefully it all won't confuse you.

Check her crop first thing in the morning before she's had anything to eat/drink - the crop should be empty.
If it's not empty, then read this article to help you determine what course of treatment you need to follow.

She's eating/drinking. Is she active and acting normal otherwise?

Okay thank you unfortunately when I got up this morning I wasnt able to check her comb because she was trying to lay on egg. Which is a good thing? I'm going to check if her egg is good or soft shell but she ate and drank before I could get back out there to check but yes she has not been showing any other symptoms. Shes fine and stubborn like always. Maybe she just ate ALOT that day lol

And yes the thread thing sorry I wasnt thinking and posted another one not realizing I already posted it. Long day haha

Update: I checked her crop and it is flat and smaller now thank you and her egg is perfectly fine. Hopefully she stays that way haha
My hens have looked awful lately with molting, and I notice big crop even more, so I can relate. So glad she laid an egg and crop went down & digested!

To get an accurate account of crop function, check first thing in the morning before she eat/drinks.

Glad that she seems to be doing o.k.!
