Some of you know me (more or less

), but for those that don't I'm a noob to chickens learning on the fly more or less. From PA. I got five hens from My Pet Chicken last spring, it took them 31 weeks to start laying, now I'm swimming in eggs

No problems with them growing up, but I always have lots of questions. Fortunately your site has a LOT of available info and a nice search engine. So I'll try not to bug y'all too much.

Hello and welcome! Those are some pretty chickies! I like your coop, too. I'm still hashing out plans for my chicks and coop, so still learning a lot from everyone.

Hi Pacanis, I'm new here too and learning lots.
great coop! Question on your fence, the poles just stick deep into the ground without digging holes first? if so I like that is it strong enough for say a dog to throw his weight onto?

Thanks for the welcome and comps!

BSC, I hashed out plans for my coop for a year! Which design, how many birds did I really want to get, insulated or not... Finally i just started sawing and hammering or I probably still wouldn't have chickens

I actually had my chicks first, so I had to get it done.

ncaroline, They are called T-posts and hammer into the ground. People use them a lot for snow fences, too. Their somewhat strong, but the little yard is not predator proof, the fencing just rests on the ground. I pulled the posts out once and moved them slightly to give the chickens fresh grass last year, but that's a lost cause. The girls need a bigger area, which will come this spring. I work at home and they are close to the house, but I do leave from time to time.... it's a bit of a concern and I may make something a little stronger.
I close them in every night though.

Glad to be here SC. Got your PM, but I would have had to log in to read it and that wasn't happening
