Is this too many birds in a cage?

They really like bigger the better. I have 3 pair of Zebra's and a pair of Societies in a 3.5'X4'X6' high. Lots of nests and lots of tree limbs, perches and water bowls.

Can you put singles in there? Or just pairs?

It depends on the species and how much room per bird they have. Here is a great chart to get you started, though as a disclaimer: birds can be individualistic and even species that should get along together sometimes squabble!

That said, most of the common finches need at least a pair. They are social, flocking birds.

The chart with the link is a chart, but it has many flaws, it is outdated and not reliable.

Can you keep offspring once they reach teen age together with parents or do you have to remove them?
How about singles? I currently have 2 males and 3 females.....

I have 7 in it at the moment. The societys have eggs and should hatch soon. I wouldn't keep more than 5 pairs in it for breeding. The young stay in till they are sold.
