I don't really believe this because I know it takes 24 to however many hours for an egg to develop...Or whatever. So a friend told me the average hen lays 3 eggs a day!? I told him no they only lay 1 a day. So basically my newly hen lays 5-7 a week and for this "friend" of mine that's a bad layer!? So does the average hen lay 3 eggs a day? Or is somebody an idiot? lol

Anyone who believes your friend might just happen to be an idiot.

I'm new at chicken keeping but have been reading a lot since Feb. and I have NEVER heard of 3 eggs in one day, 2 a day is very rare but never 3. I hope that someone with more experiance can give you a definative answer.

Never heard anything close to that. Even the record holder, as I recall, was more an average of 1.5 per day (ie laying every 18 hrs or so, rather than 24).
