is this what im supposed to be doing?

The most fragile period for the eggs is the first 3 days and the last 3 days. During the first 3 days, the embryo is just starting to develop, as well as the vein network. It is not advised to handle them at all during this time as the vein network is very fragile and can become twisted causing damage to the embryo. During the last 3 days handling is not advised due to the chick positioning itself within the egg to hatch, as well as keeping a steady environment for hatch to be successful.

Optimal candling days are 7, 14 & 18. I usually only candle on day 14, where you are certain if a chick is growing or not.

i have no turner so i have to turn like 11 eggs 3 times a day...turner costed tooooooo much!

My comments were in reference to candling, where people are shining bright sometimes too hot of lights on them and turning the eggs round and round to try and see in them.

The slow turning process is ok.

It's not advisable to candle before day 7 just like Jody has explained...the chick in the egg is trying to grow and handling it early could cause damage...day 7, 14 and 18 to candle....I use a small mag. flashlight....

also, is it bad if i turn the eggs like an hour later? i forgot today

I don;t think that an hour off is going to hurt anything. I have heard that some people do not even turn their eggs but I do not reccommmend that. Good luck with your incubating process i hope that you get some little ones.

I've heard, if need be, you can turn them once a day! As long as it's an odd number of times per day. I'm turning mine 3 times a day, but not really on a set schedule! I'm a first timer, too, so I'm learning as I go!

An hour or a few hours off is not going to hurt anything...Your eggs do need turned ....an odd number of turnings is what we do...3, some do 5 ....What your doing by turning is keeping the embryo from sticking to one side of the shell, it needs to float to grow properly...

This is my first time too. What i'm doing for turning (and Speckledhen gave me this idea) is i cut holes in the bottom of egg cartons, put the eggs in them, and prop them up with a 2x4 on one side and then alternate for turning. I have a 12 egg carton and an 18 egg carton. I put a piece of wood on one end of one and the other end on the other, and then just move the wood over. I hope this helps
