Is this what we think it is?

That is not a RIR:(

I agree, I'm no expert but that doesn't look like any RIRs I've seen. Closer to a EE or Ameraucana(spelled right by chance?).

Spelled right, but no Ameraucana looks like that.

She's a Welsummer.

not a rir and if thats a cuckoo maran then its a poor quilty one but they are both pretty non the less

When you say poor quality, what do you mean by that? Old? We are really new to this obviously have a lot to learn. We have had these two for almost 6 weeks now and no eggs from either of them. The welsummer was very bald on her back and neck and then lost all her tail feathers so we figure she has been putting all her energy into that. It's getting pretty cold up here at night, so we're glad everything is filling in on her.

The cuckoo marans possibly went through or is going through a molt. Not a ton of feathers, but definitely quite a few laying around the coop and ground. Her tail feathers and filling in now, so maybe that is why she hasn't been laying either, but we are seriously wondering about her age. They told us about 1.5 years old. Who know though. She is coo-coo for sure and we enjoy having her around.

It sounds like they both came from a big farm and if nothing else, hopefully hanging around our backyard has been a nice change of pace for them.

By poor quality, they mean they don't meet breed standards. So you couldn't show them, but they'll still lay eggs.

I don't think any of my chickens are show quality and I get lots of eggs.

Your roo is probably about 4-5 mos old. The others I can't say for sure, maybe someone more experienced can give some thoughts on ways to tell the age. I know my girls under a year have some filling out to do, but once they're over a year, I don't know how to tell how old they are, other than to say they're over or under a year. My sex-link gets whiter every time she molts, but I have seen some as white as her under a year old, so who knows! btw, the Welsummer looks like she has some filling out to do yet, so I would guess she's young, while the pic of your Marans she looks a lil older, but hard to say for sure from a pic.

Thanks for the clarification! Definitely not going to be showing them at all. Just like having them around the yard and if we get some eggs in the process than that's a bonus.
