Sittin' at the computer!
The title says it. I think I heard one time that you shouldn't feed watermelon to your chicks, but I wanted to make sure of that because this weekend I am going to eat some watermelon and (maybe) feed the leftovers to the chicks. And if it is not good for them what could happen?

I always feed watermelon to my chicks. Not everyday, but once in awhile.
Nothing happens too them. Might get a looser poop?
I also give them purple cabbage and scratch grains. Just provide them with grit.

They will love it. It's a good way for them to keep a bit more hydrated in hot weather. Mine love any type of melon, cucumbers and veggies.
As @chickens really stated just make sure they have a source of grit.

OK, so I just need to make sure that they have protein, right?

Yes on the protein.
I suppose I should have clarified my input. Watermelon is a great treat not a meal.

As @MeepBeep stated, not much nutritional value in watermelon. So IMO any treats should not exceed 10% of daily intake, so make sure the chick starter is available to them free choice.

No. You need to make sure they have a balanced diet. Whether that means access to a balanced feed or access to some combination of feed, grains, and free ranging area is up to you, but chickens need more than just protein.
