is whiny dead??UPDATE!!!SHE DIED ):

Will do. So, if that wasn't the issue...I am confused as to what it is. Are you saying that if I keep up with the Poly-vi-sol for a month that she probably will be fine? I am just worried I will find her like that again in the morning....ahhh.

You can give the polyvisol for one week at three drops a day and then the following week taper off (you dont want to risk her getting too much vit A or D at once ) > When this period is over you can switch over to giving her Avia Charge 2000 (one of the few complete nutritional/vit supplements (not a feed like the handfeeding parrot formula) which is formulated to be safe to give as a daily supplement if need be >you can purchase online from McMurray or Strombergs )

Do as Ruth suggests and leave out food for her (mix just enough of the formula in with it to make it clump together) ... add a dollop of yogurt in there too ...you will then see if she has been eating while you have not noticed.

I agree with diana (dlunicorn) Bethany. I had a pretty deformed chick that was not doing well, and after 3-4 days of poly visol, she had a miraculous transformation. She is no longer deformed and looks just like all the other chicks. I also had a chick get attacked by my cat and the same stuff helped that one to a full recovery.

Yes, the vitamins seem to be helping....

I am just wondering if it is normal that she is not interested in food really. I am pretty much making her eat. She is happy to take in electrolytes + water, but besides that she isn't that interested in anything else yet.

Is this normal??

When birds are feeling poorly or even just stressed they will often stop drinking and eating ... it is why you loose them so quickly (they have a very high metabolism and so what they eat and drink in a 24 hour period, incl. the quality and quantity can be crucial )
Also when there has been a very serious issue such as this , malabsorption also occurs (meaning even if they DO eat enough they are unable to absorb the nutrients properly from that feed and this takes supplementation to avoid the major deficiencies which can cause secondary problems or weaken them further )

You have been very lucky that your bird has recovered (I suspect some degree of hypothermia ) and she is not out of the woods yet by a long shot and still needs your attention to details in the coming couple of weeks. You have done a great job!

Yeah, it certainly is not over yet!! I am a little nervous to see if I have the endurance to get her through it. I don't mind hand watering and feeding, but I hope she'll start to want it as well.

Thanks so much for your advice and LOADS of help with this dlhunicorn, I am so greatful to you.

I just went to the feed store and got the right electrolytes for animals. I think it says to mix it in a gallon of water. I also picked up a better heat lamp.

Let's keep our fingers crossed, she still is incredibly weak.

Can you tell me the name brand of the electrolytes you got? Please read the instructions carefully and see if it makes mention (in reference to the GALLON measurement) of a STOCK solution...
This means you must dilute it further (most brands come with instructions for 110 gallons or such and do not give the a measurement ofr if you want to make one gallon)
If the brand is DURVET then here are instructions for one gallon (as told to WES when he contacted DURVET for the proper dilution):

If you have the 4 oz. packet of Vitamins and Electrolytes then you would mix 1/2 teaspoon into 1 gallon of water.

If you have the 8 oz. packet of Vitamins and Electrolytes then you would mix 3/4 teaspoon into 1 gallon of water.

If you have another brand the above may not apply.

ETA: the missing dosage (how many teaspoons)

UPDATE ON WHINY!!
big_smile.png

She is taking food from me now, very watered down baby parrot food, but I am very happy as before she wouldn't open her beak!!! I am so happy!!!

So, I am guessing I shouldn't overdo it now that she will take...since she is obviously really hungry, but I should give her small doses all day long versus letting her dictate right???

Okay, I have it, (no worries I haven't used it yet)
It is the Durvet Vitamins and electrolytes, the 4oz. one.

Yeah so it says dissolve 1/2 package in 55 gallons of one into 110 gallons!!!
I don't think I'll be needing that much.

So the proper measurement is one teaspoon per gallon???
