Is your coop really Dusty???? Why???

Chickens, like YOU and your friends who shed skin cells, cause almost all the dust in the coop and in your home. In a small space with six millions (or fewer chickens), you're going to have a boat load of dust. Get your chickens out of the coop; get yourself some dust masks, open every window, door, etc. in your coop; stand in the door with your electric leaf blower turned on high and watch what happens. Don't go all the way in until the air clears. Then blow the miscellaneous area that need more.

I use my hb's shop vac. to clean it up some. Leaf blower is an idea but would it just redeposit when you stop . It sure will be air born. Gloria Jean

hmmm, that's what I was afraid to hear, most times I wear nothing and that's not good. half the time, i'm so busy rushing around and don't exactly plan so i'm usually not prepared. that's not good. got to start planning in advance!

I quess you know what I am doing this weekend. The blower, but first the mask. I usually just sweep it out and wipe off the tops of the feed cans. I hope the blower works well.

We put our chickens in a stall in our barn, and then realized why farmers always have separate chicken coops - the birds are soooooooo dusty. We're now planning a separate chicken coop. When we've got the coop, then the leaf blower and pressure washer are going into action in the barn.

The girls are going out this weekend to the new coop and in the meantime they've been in the garage. I am NOT looking forward to cleaning the garage after they are out. This reminded me of that dreadful task! Maybe I can convince DH to do it with the leaf blower like you guys suggested. Every surface of the garage is covered with dust, feathers, and wood shavings!
