Isaac, My 5 Year Old Delaware Rooster....Old Age is Closing In On The Big Guy (Long Story)

Here we are almost a year later and my big guy is doing very well. He falls off the roost at times when he can't get his legs to do what he wants, when they stiffen up on him, but we've widened it yet again and he's doing as well as he can with his old arthritic legs. Here he is with his five hens out free ranging today. Gosh, every time he molts, his tail gets one more white or half-white feather in it, like any human going gray.

Hens and cat trying to avoid each other as cat is coming back from his afternoon jaunt.

You mean Isaac, not Atlas, I'm sure. You remind me that I sure need to get new pics of Atlas, though. I keep being distracted by other things, like finishing my quilted tablecloth/bed topper I put off for the entire summer and most of the fall. Isaac was just close to the house and my camera was close by.

I did mean Isaac, duh! Tho Atlas looks like he's going to be a handsome king, too. How are your hands doing with the cold weather? I find some swelling actually goes down when it's cold, but not too humid. Hope you are pain free. Your quilting and crocheting work is fabulous. I never had the patience to learn.

Thank you for the compliment! Yesterday, my first day back quilting after a long hiatus, I had major issues with tingling, then numb fingers/hands. I had to keep removing my thimble and slapping my hand on my recliner arm to get the circulation back. Guess Isaac and I have lots in common, LOL. Today, it hasn't been too bad so it comes and goes.

I'm a bit frightened. Wednesday overnight, temperatures will plunge to the lows that got Isaac last winter. We'll hover around 5* with who-knows-what windchill, but I'm betting below zero. We have plenty of hay to stack him up a great cushy bed on the floor under the heat lamp, but I'm understandably nervous for him. The next night it will be around 12-15* then up from there until the end of the month, so really one very scary night for all my oldsters here.
