I have 6 Isabelle orpingtons, they're 12 weeks old today and I've been waiting and waiting to figure out how many roos and hens I've hatch but I still clearly have no idea. At what age does it become obvious what they are? Can anyone tell if they're roos or hens? How do you tell? Sorry they're hard to get pictures of, not my friendliest chickens.

Most of them look like girls! You may have 1 or 2 cockerels, but it seems like you might have 1. They are so beautiful! :love💚

Thank you! They're absolutely gorgeous, I love them so much, I just wish they weren't so sketchy. They know what the bag of treats looks like and come to me every time they hear it but they not like my silkies, they hate being held and run away if I get to close without treats.

Your welcome! It would help for them to feel more comfortable around you if you sat down in their coop and just watched them and gently talk to them. Also, hold your hand out with treats so they can eat from your hand. You'll soon see that will eventually start feeling more safe and secure around you!

They all look like pullets to me 🤷‍♂️
If there is a male to two in that bunch, they are very slow developing.
My Buff Orp cockerel was crowing, and had a big, red, comb and wattles at that age.
I hatched 3 black mottled houdans with these orpingtons and two of them turned out to be roosters, they are both crowing at this point. The only sounds out of orpingtons is purring when they get treats.
