Isbar thread

Yes, I consider Olga to be blue-- but the sun has bleached the blue a lot - Since Blue,Black and Splash are the Isbar colors---and she isn't the other two---she's blue -- but the sun bleaching her feathers does make them look a bit different.

Ok, I was wondering what the Isbar colors were. Well, she's very pretty. I'm enjoying watching mine (slyly) work her way up the pecking order. She's so much smaller than many others in my flock, but they don't mess with her much anymore. I watch her mostly do her own thing, but if she's near the "leaders" they will let her. She's not the least bit annoying to them..unlike a Wyandotte I have that does the most ridiculous things..I'm always telling her "I'd be pecking at you, too!!" Lol Do yours hold their own in the coop?

That's funny. I think isbars are smarter if that's possible in a chicken! I was a bit worried about them when I mixed them in with a flock. However, they are very quick and more agile than any chicken I have so they never had a problem. The 3 of them always stick together though.

I love it.... sounds like the Wyandotte is a ditz. I have two Isbars and a Legbar in the same pen.... Previously (before two Isbars were killed by raccoon and two Isbars sold to a friend -- they all seemed harmonious - and there are not squabbles among the Isbars themselves or the Isbars with others.

I agree, Isbars do seem exceedingly smart. When I first saw my first Isbars in real live -- It reminded me of a school of fish where they all move together. Later when I first got my own, it seemed almost as if they had an invisible thread that connected them together. I have to say it. I love Isbars.

So I just bought Isbar chicks so this question is a little ahead but I have 5 black chicks. When they reproduce will their chicks be the 50% blue/25% black/25% splash or will it be 50% black?

If all you have are black, all their chicks will be black. You will need a blue or splash to introduce the diluting gene that produces blue (with 1 copy) or splash (with 2 copies).

Ok cool. Good to know. I actually prefer the black birds. The breeder I bought them from sells both blues and blacks.
