Isbar thread

And here is an isbar splash with my lavender orpington chick of the week!

Mine are from GFF 2nd import. The one on the right is a lavender orpington, not to confuse things! Isbar of left. But the legs should go darker as the bird develops. You definitely dont want to see yellow shanks. Splashes and blues are my favorite. Do you know if they are hens or straight run?

Izzy the Isbar is all grown up...

still waiting for her eggs.

fresh feathers for Tome

This hen is interesting, Black australorp/Isbar, but brown eggs.

Love the dark eyes on Izzy! She's beautiful.

Tome is looking sharp! Is she a Legbar X?

Was the Isbar part of your Isbar/Australorp hen the hen or the cock? Whichever one it was is either heterozygous for the blue egg gene, or doesn't carry it at all. Do you have any other offspring from the same Isbar that are laying yet?

Tome I got as an egg from a lady that had pures, she is the sister or daughter of Martin She just got a bunch of new feathers from a molt. Her neck feathers look like his. but it is hard to tell in the pic she is hiding.

Martin the roo.

the australorp mixed hen the dad was Australorp. The other Isbar hens I have are molting, and from a different hatch.

in this pic I have behind the Aus/is bird,to the left is a Isbar/black copper maran dark green eggs. (no she doesn't have SLW feathering, that is a SLW behind her.) her dad was Martin. the far right is an Isbar I got as an egg from the same lady. she is molting.

Martin is very handsome!

If some of his offspring are laying brown eggs and some green, then he is heterozygous for the blue egg gene (O/o+).

If the hen that you breed him to is also (O/o+), then about 25% of the offspring will be homozygous for the blue egg gene (two copies - one from each parent - O/O) and lay green eggs. About 50%of the offspring will be heterozygous for the blue egg gene (O/o+) and lay green eggs (O/o+) and about 25% will be absent the blue egg gene (o+/o+) and lay brown eggs. So even though the hen lays green eggs, she can still produce pullets that lay brown eggs.

If the hen is homozygous for the blue egg gene (two copies - one from each parent - O/O), then about 50% of the offspring will be homozygous (O/O) and about 50% will be heterozygous (O/o+). All the offspring will lay green eggs.

If you breed him to a brown egg layer (o+/o+), about 50% of the offspring will be heterozygous (O/o+) and lay green eggs. The other 50% will be absent the blue egg gene (o+/o+) and lay brown eggs.

For your Isbar breeding planning purposes, your goal should be to get all offspring homozygous for the blue egg gene (O/O).

I asked if Tome is a Legbar X because she looks like she has a crest.

Does anyone happen to have hatching eggs available at the moment?

Looking for 6-18 eggs, preferably first import lines or very carefully selected later import/mixed lines.

I'm located in PA so most likely need to be shipped.

Please message me(or respond here)...

Thanks,
Tim
