Isbar thread

I got some nice Isbars from Omega Hills Farms... not quite as dark eyed as the very first imports (a dark brown instead of the coal black look)  -- but healthy birds.  One of the cockerels (a splash) won 3rd place in a poultry show in the "backyard division' (Non APA recognized breeds or anything someone wants to enter there) -- and that was against all comers  -  I was pretty much impressed by that -- but they were all in general beautiful chickens.

This is good to know as I was thinking of ordering hatching eggs from them.

Just curious...I have a black isbar rooster. If I hatch out chicks from some of my brown layers would new pullets lay green eggs? Also I know if you breed isbar together you would get blue/black/splash. Would you just get random colors or would any certain color hens give blue/black/splash babies?

If your rooster is homozygous for the blue egg gene (meaning he has 2 copies - one from each parent), then yes, his offspring will lay green eggs. If he is heterozygous (meaning only 1 copy of the gene), then roughly half of his offspring should lay green eggs. If none of his offspring lay green eggs, only brown, and you have about a dozen or more as a sample, then it is highly likely that the rooster does not carry the blue egg gene. It is something you can only figure out by test breeding him.

As for color, if you breed him to a black hen, you would get black chicks. If you breed him to a blue hen, you should get roughly half blue and half black chicks. If you breed him to a splash hen, you would get all blue chicks. If you breed him to any other color hen, then you could use the color calculator to figure out what you would likely hatch: kippenjungle.nl/kruising.html

Finally!
One of the pullets laid 2 eggs today! They stopped for 3 weeks after they were NPIP tested. I guess they have forgiven me!
