Isbar thread

This Is the black mottled SB cockerel. Got him directly from. GFF - but have been told by the general breeding community that the mottled gene is not desirable.

I am so sorry they are selling whatever that is as isbar/silverudd's blue. Another of the characteristic are dark brown to black eyes. Marans have the amber color eyes. Green eggs, and lots of them, are another consistent characteristic they need to have. They should also be medium sized, clean legged and good foragers. Mine have always been calm and non aggressive. They play well with other breeds too. My avatar is a 1st import silverudd's blue/isbar cockerel.

Yes. I was a little frustrated with GFF myself. Fun coincidence - my avatar is a 1st import splash SB. I truly do love the roos - they don't make it at all hard to keep a few of them, even together w hens. Yes, copious egg laying is so true! Wow! My older girls will do 9-11 days in a row before taking a day off.

Do you happen to remember what he looked like as a chick? Wondering if there are any "tells" That I can pinpoint in my new chicks to determine if they may be mottled.

I thought splash when he was younger, but now I look at pics and know he had lots of black, where splash tend to be more white based.

Thanks. Some of my black chicks have yellow on their faces but mostly black. The one I got that looked like this was very tiny and didn't make it, so I won't know if it was mottled. I guess I will wait and see how their feathers come in.

We have a beautiful six-month old (just shy of; May 10, 2017 hatch date) Silverudd's Blue cockerel that we would like to trade for 1-2 SB pullets. He is descendant from Greenfire Farms' second import stock; We can provide info of the breeders of his lineage. He is just coming into his sexual maturity (attempted to mount his sister yesterday before other hens in the flock showed him the error of his ways, lol). He is one of three SB's that we got straight run; two of which are cockerels. Please call/text me, Heather, at 850-483-1517, only if you're seriously interested please. If you call, please leave a message. We are in Pensacola and are willing to travel/meet for trade. He has been raised on organic feed, backyard free-range in a small mixed flock. He has never been given antibiotics.

Hey there, new to BYC and I see this tread has not been touched in a while, but I am looking to get some advice on sexing chicks? I got 5 straight run Isbars from Orchard Hill Poultry. Sadly the only splash did not survive shipment. There are 3 blue and one black. Hatch date was May 11th, so they are almost 4 weeks. I know the most reliable way of sexing them is to wait, but I thought it may be fun/informative to see if anyone on here had any guesses.

Chick 1: (this is the one I this is most likely a roo. It is developing a comb larger than his peers and his feather development is slower)

Obviously I'd hope for all pullets, but given the nature of genetics, I'm sure the chances are low on that. Secondly, do Isbar roos do well with other cockerels? I have a male cream legbar in his group.

Also I apologize for all the junk in the background. They are on my back porch. lol.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t answer about Isbar roosters & was hoping someone would join in and answer. I finally got my Silverudd’s Blue chicks. They are now 11 days old & doing great. I found another Isbar thread titled “BLUE ISBARS - Pictures & discussion”. It hasn’t had recent activity either but I’m sure there are folks like me that watch the thread. Make sure to post more pics as they get older. If you look back a few pages on this thread, @cree57i mentioned it can be tough to sex the Silverudd’s Blues (Isbar). Her avatar is a beautiful Silverudd’s Blue Rooster.
