Isn’t it odd...

Yeah, there was a chicken egg place nearby here. They never did cage free. If they had roosters, they'd break their necks and throw them in the trash.
When my parents heard that's what they did, they offered to take all the roosters they had.
About fifteen years ago, we had three hundred roosters running around the place! It was pretty cool. They were nice, never charged or attacked anyone.
If I remember right, they were shut down not too long ago and were replaced by someone in Bloomfield, NE. I never buy from it though, ever. Places like that make me very angry.

What a feed bill with 300 roosters, an awful lot for your parents pay for.
Actually no, my dad harvests corn. They free ranged 100% during spring summer fall, and were fed corn during winter.
I know that that's not a good diet, but back then it's all anyone fed their chickens around here because local feed stores never sold chicken feed.
Obviously now I would never do that kind of diet haha

Even when people know, they still use the brown egg marketing tactic to sell more eggs. I live in a rural area with signs every few miles "Brown eggs for sale". ;)

And here on BYC you see people comment that some people think there is something wrong with eggs from non white/brown egg layers, I have an Aunt who raised chickens all of her life and her husband thought there was something weird about a hen they were given that laid green eggs. They had to cook the first eggs separate, because they were thinking they may not be fit to eat.... But that side of my family is odd anyhow.....

When I tell people my chickens lay blue and green eggs they ask if they’re edible.

I know. And when I tell them that it’s like any “normal” egg when cracked open they’re like “You mean it’s not green?!” *face palm*
It seems they think that chicken and eggs are created in a lab or something. They don’t even realize how it gets on the shelf.
