Debbie one of my dear friend is a farriers, and he does his job well, but he isn't the one who trains the horse to stand. Yes you horse can be train before....but you should get a trainer to do that.
Not knowing what you farrier was like, he very well may have needed run off. Thing this thread start about was farriers working with horses.
Not knocking you or the way you treat your horse.....but most farriers don't want to risk getting hurt by untrain horse'
Yes they are some that need put in cross ties, drugged and etc.
Don't think anyone being judgemental.....just most know its not the farriers job to break a horse.
Farriers become thats horse 4th leg ,if he doesn't stand right, not any fun holding that weight.
I am completely clueless about horses so take this with a grain of salt. I think when they say training its just for her to stand and not fidget around, and allow her feet to be handled. I'm not sure if you need to have her shod for that type of training or not, like i said i am dumb to horses Also i think what some are trying to say is that your idea of duchess not being difficult and a farriers idea of her not being difficult might be different. While it seems some might be overly harsh or passing judgment I think they are really trying to help you its just a perspective thing. I really don't think anyone is suggesting that you are ignoring your animals, I could be wrong on all accounts though.
They should know ways to get the job done. I have one who goes to sleep as he Is getting trimmed. Another one is a bit of a pita. The shoer we use happens to be a horse trainer so for us it works
When I had horses, I had an awesome farrier! He trimmed all of my draft horses, and some had never even been touched when I got them. Even it it took him two hours he would get them done. He even taught them what they were suppose to do. Never charged me any more than normal, but of course I always paid more because he taught my horses when he didn't have to.
Sometimes, it takes a few before you find a great farrier. My farrier was allowed to correct the horses as needed with his own techniques not mine. He also taught me his techniques of correcting them and what to do when they acted up while being trimmed.
Edited because I should have been in bed hours ago, and I can't type when I'm tired
