Isn't the LAYING hen supposed to sing the egg song?

Awesome story! Thanks for sharing!

My Timi (Black Australorp) yesterday was putting up quite the fuss. She was rearranging the nest, sitting in it, panting, and then would get up and buh-GAWK like there was no tomorrow! And there would be NO EGG! She did this 3-4 times, before she finally laid the egg. Once she laid the egg, she got up and walked out quietly like nothing had happened.

Who would ever guess chickens have such personalities?!

Oh cute story! That is one smart hen you got there....she's learned to delegate: I'll lay the egg, you all sing the song.

Oh and she was just turning the covers down...didn't want to mess up the bedspread.

Im so excited! I experienced that TODAY! It's hard to envision what is going to happen and how it's going to sound by posts. When it's happening you go "Hey!! that's what they were talking about!!" My husband, son and I paced outside the henhouse "waiting" for the egg. My son (13 yrs.) just giggled and giggled while husband told our little lady "It's ok. You'll be fine. It's supposed to happen this way" I love it! Beats tv watching any day.

Today I heard my ROOSTER sing the egg song.

None of my hens have started laying yet, only 15 weeks old.

LOL!

I can't tell you how many times I have run outside because someone is SCREAMING the egg song. But I never find any eggs afterwards. It's weird. I keep looking for a hidden nest but haven't found one yet.

I did get 6 eggs today though, and didn't hear a sound when those were laid. Only later in the day, three chickens stood on my patio and sang away.....

That is one of the best chicken stories ever. I like you, you're pretty funny.

My hens are doing the same crazy thing. And one of them crowed at that top of her lungs after laying yesterday. I actually went to check and see if one of them had turned rogue rooster.

Crazy, but you're right, it makes for great chicken TV.

My Partridge Cochin rooster does the "egg song" too! I heard him doing it this morning and rushed out to get the egg and it had already been eaten. But, that's another topic...
