I am in search of a breeder with good quality white Sebastopol geese around AR or surrounding states. I wish I could go to Ohio Nationals but that is not happening this year. My daughter currently shows Cayuga Ducks. We will be at the HOTOPA show this year.

From me getting into breeding this last year.

There are few and far between quality breeders. Be careful and do your research.

I'm in upstate NY and one of two that do colors (Grey/Buff/Blue/SB). White is the preferred for show quality, and you can order some from hatcheries. My best quality birds came from OH and from original stocks. (Roundtree/Cottage Rose/Holderreads), but it is hard to come by and the stock is hard to breed imo.

If you are looking for show quality white ones there is a bunch of them around, but it depends on what you are looking for. The birds themselves are expensive. ($300+ for Goose, $240+ for Ganders).

Yes I just checked and there still out! :hit
Yeah and a lot of people retired/exited the breed totally.

I've been trying to build up my stock, but there is only one lady who is 3 hours I know carries them in NJ. And then some smaller breeding stocks still. I drove 10+ to OH to pick up my last babies.

Will have to keep an eye out as I worry a lot of the legacy people leaving puts the breed at risk.

The price is not an issue and I wouldn't mind using a transport service to get birds from a quality breeder that is farther. I do want white. But obtaining the best quality I can get is my goal. I don't even know who to look into and start discussing with.

I normally don't recommend as I've gotten flack before.

I personally have gotten stock from Happy Daze Ranch in OH twice now, and the owner is 10/10.

His white stock I personally visited and met on the ranch and they come from good quality in my opinion. I did not add any white stock to mine as I'm focused on Colors (Blue/Grey/Saddleback/Lavender) right now.

It's end of Juvenile season, so your best bet would be getting on peoples lists for goslings in the spring (Feb->June), and then raising them out. The other thing too is for show quality birds there is a lot that goes into it. Also looking locally on FB/Craigslist just fair warning there is a lot of cross breeds or people that offer "pure breed" sebbies but in fact when they grow out they are not.

If you have time to wait I personally would stick with getting on a few peoples waitlists and grow out the goslings yourself from either shipping or picking up. Also from my experience helping with 4H goslings that are imprinted on new people tend to be good for showing as they trust their caretakers and have a calmer demeanor as they have trust built up.

If you have any more questions feel free to reach out. I'm not sure how many people are active in the Sebastopol community here but I'm sure there are still some people around.
