Isolated Muscovy

I have one Muscovy and 9 other asst ducks. My other ducks are 13 weeks old, and he is one week younger. They have all been together for 12 weeks. The Muscovy always seems left out. He hangs back behind the others and it appears they shun him and push him away. Tonight he was in the coop by himself while the others were out. It breaks my heart. I have never had ducks before. Is this normal? By the way, I say “he” but have yet to determine if the Muscovy is male or female.

Ducks and chickens are known to shun those who look to different. It depends on the individual though. Maybe look into a muscovy friend?

I agree, look into a muscovy friend, as muscovy speak a different duck language than mallard derived ducks. My son had a well integrated female muscovy with his female pekins and I have a pekin drake closely bonded with a muscovy drake. But all three of my pekin drakes try and chase away my other muscovy drake. Thus confirming its an individual thing. It's best rectified by having another muscovy

Muscovy are not just a different breed, they are a different species. If you are able to find another as a friend for him, that would probably make him very happy.

Even though I have both the domestic ducks and Muscovy here, they usually keep to their own kind.

My son had a well integrated female muscovy with his female pekins and I have a pekin drake closely bonded with a muscovy drake. I honestly had one muscovy drake that did well with just ducks, even mated the females often and got along with our mallard derived drake well, but that was most likely a fluke XD. But if he showed those signs of being lonely we would have searched for muscovies for him then. But he was quite happy, our Elvis was quite possessive of the ducks (including the pekin drake, they were best friends)

At first the other ducks did not like her and nipped at her but now she fits in pretty well and has become friends with the other female and one of the drakes. The others also walk faster than her so maybe that is another reason why muscovies tend lag behind the others at least while walking

At first the other ducks did not like her and nipped at her but now she fits in pretty well and has become friends with the other female and one of the drakes. As others have mentioned Muscovies are not just a different breed, but a different sub species. They can bond with mallard derived ducks, Or what ever flock members they have. Due to predator losses I only have one Muscovy after having a flock. Although I have Mallard derived ducks the remaining Muscoviy chose to join my Silkie flock.
