We live in the country, my neighbors have chickens/ducks/and two peacocks (one peacock one peahen). I have 14 chickens and 1 turkey, the peacock has recently been hanging out at our house. For awhile it wasn't an issue. However now he keeps roosting on our vehicles and scratching them, we found him in the garage one night roosting on the garage door rails, and now has recently started attacking my chickens and cornering them specifically my rooster. My chickens are pinned up during the day and only go outside when we are home from work. The peacock lays on the concrete from our walkout basement all day until I let them out. Ive tried chasing him off, spraying with water, shooting softly with a BB gun. I really don't want to have to kill the peacock but my neighbor doesn't really see any concern and now my chickens cant enjoy their few hours of rummaging because the peacock is becoming a nuisance. Is there anything I can do? If it was nice I wouldn't mind him hanging out but I cant have him scratching our vehicles and attacking my chickens.

If your state has the same laws as mine, if it's on your property you have every right to dispose of him.

First off I would ask your neighbors to pay to have your vehicles repainted. If they decline, then ask them to keep their peacock penned up.
If that doesn't work, bye bye peacock. You have every right to let your chickens out on your own property. If those neighbors truly loved the peacock they would do something to keep it away from your property.

We live in Colorado. Luckily he only scratched the clear coat and it will come out with some buffing. But one of these days it may not be that lucky. Their lab eats their ducks all the time and they sadly do not care. I just hate that I have to be the one to kill it, when I love my birds.

Have you tried talking to your neighbor? Scratching your vehicles is an expensive repair bill ,

I’d think no one would tolerate that damage.

Yes we have, and two of our neighbors have complained about it being on their vehicles also the her and she doesn't seem to think its a big deal. I suppose im just going to have to do the deed, was just hoping there was some way to make him nicer lol. Hes young, 2 years old.

Will the peacock let you catch it? Maybe you should load it up and take it to an animal shelter. Tell them it wont leave your property and let them take care of it.

I thought about calling the DOW or trying to relocate we do have a farm locally that takes care of hurt/abandoned wildlife. It will let you within about 2 feet but not closer. I think id have to trap it or catch with a net.

See if you can chase it in your garage and then shut the doors. That way it can't get away from you. I'd say give the local farm a shot, that would at least give the peacock a second chance.

Wishing you luck in whatever you decide. Personally, I would shoot it. Then give the body back to the neighbor. But I am partial to animals staying in their own yards. People shoot loose dogs all the time, why would this be any different?

I do a constant head count on my chickens to make sure none of them stray where they are not supposed to be. Just unfortunate for the Peacock.
