It’s been 24 hours since internal pip. Should I make a safety hole?

The little bit of yolk should continue to draw in. Just try keeping the brooder dry, soft, and free from anything sharp that it could get caught on and rupture it. It may draw into the body, or may dry up and eventually fall off.
You’re doing great! Congrats.

Ok is this one going to make it?

I was also thinking that looked like yolk. If so, then it is backwards. I’d say the bruise is where the bill is.
I’d make a small safe hole near the bruise. You could also tape some clear plastic wrap around the end you opened, to keep it moistened. Either way, keep any exposed membranes moist at all times.
Hi,

I had the same issue in June with my abandoned Wood Ducks.
It that time I had no clue what I was doing so I broke the membrane and she hatched within a half hour.
Her yolk sac was not absorbed and she was so weak that she couldn’t even hold her head up. But she was slowing down and I felt death was imminent.

I made her a bed out of a shoe box and hand fed her and held her like an infant.
Within a few days she absorbed her yolk and got stronger each day.
Of course I’m not recommending that you do this. This has my first time incubating and hatching and I had no idea what to do.
By the grace of God she made it with 24/7 TLC, but I should not have intervened.

You can clearly see her yolk sac in the second photo on the left.

Here are some photos that look almost exactly like yours..

Blessings,
Amy

Another one is a breech, but I poked a hole and it’s doing really well, already trying to pip some more. The other one that I was concerned about is also doing well, it’s moving around a lot more since I poked the hole. I’ve got four eggs total, 2 so far are breech, one is halfway out, sitting in a cup absorbing its yolk:

Hopefully for not too much longer. SO CUTE lol. The last egg hasn’t pipped internally yet, so it’s probably a breech too, but I haven’t seen any bruising yet, so I’ll wait a while on that one.
Precious baby! ❤️

😊 thanks, it’s doing really well, running around with its siblings in the brooder. It still has a “yolk” lump thing, but it’s drying out and I guess it’ll fall off.

You did such an amazing job!
I’m just like you, I put my heart and soul into keeping my babies alive.
I have been following and I can’t locate whether this little one made it?
Did you post about her?
It that point I would have taken her out, but that’s just who I am. If I think there is any chance I could save them I will do anything and always try instead of knowing that imminent death will happen. 😢

I have Muscovy’s and they are notoriously hard to incubate and hatch if they are not with their mother. And they take anywhere from 32-38 days to hatch!
I have 20 eggs currently with staggered ages.
My girl has been laying since January 23rd!!
I just lost our first baby. Same situation as you.
We were devastated but she would never have survived if she hatched.
I had to do an eggtopsy and she was in very bad shape with her yolk sac completely unabsorbed and a see through belly with exposed organs.
If she would have hatched I would have had a heart attack just knowing she would die right away.

Blessings to you on your love and devotion❤️🙏

Here was our baby. (Warning, graphic, sensitive photos.) 😢

Kindly,
Amy

It went quick thankfully. I had hoped the poor thing might have a chance, but after laying there for two hours just twitching, putting it out was just the best thing to be done.

I still have three though, and they’re SUPER adorable 🥰

Their mama is currently sitting on a dozen eggs of her own, at day 12 now, so I’ll be getting even more cuteness in a couple weeks.

Aww your poor baby duckling😢. I saw your other posts about it and I’m so sorry and hope your next twenty will be successful :hugs

It took my mama duck 3 years to go broody, maybe your Muskovy just needs a little time. I’ve read they get better at it as they get older.
