You should have at least 4 s.f. in coop and 10 s.f. in run per bird. And while we're at it, ventilation = to 10% of floor space, or 1 s.f./bird, perch = to 1 l.f./bird. I've had all of these breeds in my flock. LOVE Doms and EE. SLW are pure eye candy, but don't have the charm of the former two. Check Henderson's Chicken Breed's chart for more info about breed selection.

suggestion. a bit of white would really make the other colors "pop". Leghorns also come in a rose comb, and in a variety of colors.

I truly think if you handle the chicks a lot while growing up they all can be friendly. I hear all the time your leg horn is so friendly I’ve never seen one cry to be pet or handled.

and this is how chicken math starts... because 3 dark brown egg layers would also be nice....

I agree with Dominiques being an excellent breed. EEs can also be great... but are just so variable.

I love my rose comb leghorns, SUCH GREAT PRODUCTION! But personality varies greatly by color.

Rose comb dark brown are SUPER flighty and probably wouldn't match well with the other breeds you already chose.

Rose Comb White Leghorns however, would fit in nicely with those breeds you picked.

Ok, Al, you have opened up a pandora's box. What other color RC leghorns do you like? I have had the dark brown. Their genes still flow in my flock. But, they have a very strong will where fencing is concerned! And have you had the Spitz or what ever other white egg layer breed it was you mentioned? I'm not fond of head poufs either... but hmmm... one never knows what a bit of persuasion would do.

Spitz have the BEST personalities. .. I can mix chicks together of various ages with zero worry as to bloodshed.

And I can set up any sex ratio I want with hens staying gorgeous. I had 2 males with 3 females for MONTHS last breeding season... fertile eggs and pretty girls!


And the head poofs are SMALL so no issues or extra work as to tending.

Eggs are a bit on the smaller size... but lay rate is good, especially with the young ones.

I have had Hamburgs too... but I like the Spitz better, but I should say that I have never had hatchery Spitz, and only had hatchery Hamburgs.

hummm.. as to Leghorns, I guess I have only had:
Single comb white and light brown

rose comb white, and dark brown

bantam single comb white

The bantam single comb white were super sweet. Of the standard sized the rose comb whites had the calmest and best personalities.

However, if I had 50 to experiment on... I would like to try the rose comb dark brown with free ranging. They are so wild, they might be excellent at avoiding predators. dunno

I have heard that some of the fancier colors of Leghorns can be more calm, and I have had a few of the other colors (black, black mottled, and...uh....??) ... but not a big enough sample size to really know.

I like my Ancona, pretty, they lay well, and are great foragers. If you are talking leghorn type breeds.

I think your original group will be fine. Easter eggers can vary, though you can end up with all similar ones too.
