It finally came! My new Incubator is here! Set my eggs tonight. Anyone else?

She may or may not accept them. Broody hens can be finnicky at times. She hasn't been 'talking' to them this whole time. Make sure you do it when she's asleep, or just set them directly in front of her chest while she's watching your hand. She will look down and go 'oh, what are you doing out here?' and chirp at it as it rolls under her.. Make sure they're not already hatching as they go under her.

i just put them under her this afternoon and she is excepting them..... YAY They are not due to hatch til Friday, I was just wondering if its ok to do and still will hatch,,,Thank you for returning or answering my Questions...

I have a hen sitting right now due about the same day as you guys... I'm gonna say I'll join? - They're 3/4 claret 1/4 RIR... should make for an interesting hatch. I threw in a few from my layer coop, so it could be just about anything. She's on 12... I think.

poor little hen is only 4 lbs but she's hatched 15 for me before! The more the merrier.

the more the merrier! I am going to have to look up clarets. Probably a breed I should know, but I can't place them. Thank goodness for the breed section on here! We are hatching a few mixes too. I think the weirdest will be a Cuckoo Maran/Golden Laced Polish cross. We shall see.

What kind of hen is doing your setting for you?

Out of 30 I have 25 that are doing well. Well.... the air cells in almost all of mine are uneven I think from shipping so I hope they hatch

I'm really nervous about them. I can see them bouncing around in there though its really neat!! I'm glad yours are doing well!

Okay, stupid question: What do "uneven" air cells look like? Do you mean they are kind of lopsided at the top of the egg? I have a couple like that. I am also seeing quite a bit of variation in the size of the air cell. I worry that some are too big and some not big enough. I guess I will just keep holding steady with the humidity levels and hope for the best.

I doubt you'll find pictures of clarets. They're not a very popular breed outside of the south as they're a gamebird... Spangled ( early on in the line, so forgive the pattering... )

Solid claret hens. Standing on my truck asking for food!

Spangled hen sitting on about 9 eggs.

Baldy, a solid, who has hawk damage to her face so forgive the massive scarring. She was killed by a hawk the hatch that this picture was taken, would meet them in the air and follow them to the ground.

Out of the 25 that developed 22 look like this. All 30 actually had it, because I candled them before I put them in the incubator. And the air cells were this big as well. I hope they hatch. I can see them moving though ; ) I'm so excited and nervous. They go into lockdown on Monday.

I just set my very first batch of eggs this morning, Blue Copper Marans in a Genisis 1588 with auto egg turner. I've never tried incubating and hatching before, so hoping for some success. :D
