No it is NOT tacky. I have thought to make a sign for my main coop "stay sexy, don't get murdered " from a podcast I've been enjoying. And, you know, raccoons and foxes.I am laughing my head off at all these very clever responses ! I have but two gals in my back yard coop! and would so love to have more .Hubby gets worried when ever I go to the feed store to get more treats and food for my gals. Some day I hope to live on a farm. I love Chicken Math and the many reasons given to keep these crazy birds. I am under the Chicken effect. I have one question, is it over the top to decorate my coop with those tacky rooster paintings that I find at the Goodwill?
Also, if you lived close to me (NW PA) I would be thrilled to give you some beautiful hens.No it is NOT tacky. I have thought to make a sign for my main coop "stay sexy, don't get murdered " from a podcast I've been enjoying. And, you know, raccoons and foxes.
I know... I have thought about it and I *know* that if I boxed up some of the hens and a goose I am just making excuses about and had someone ELSE drop them off at the processing place I would be ok with that.
Because I have not still lived down taking a group of ducks to the processor with my meat birds... making the mistake of peeking into the box in the parking lot and then taking all of the females back home with me quite alive.[/QUOTE
Hahah .... Maybe you need somebody else to transport them also.... I am telling you the feeling of relief when you get rid of half of your flock you'll be spinning in the green lush mountainside singing t"hills are alive"
It's such a feeling of unburdening that's amazing you just got to do it
Right now I have 8 coops, and have started building a coop that will be 12×24. This it no more Chickens and no more coops. Well at least untill Caroline makes me buy more hatchlings when the current ones out grow wanting to cuddle on her. There is also the marginal cost increase per bird. Of course 2 is no more expensive than 1. Then, shipping costs from the hatchery was $25 for a 15 bird assortment. $27 for 25 birds. It seems only logical to order the 25. Mrs. Manhen was,,,,stressed. Then after 4 weeks I ordered another batch, so the cost of the brooder would be spread out a bit. Then another 4 weeks and the third batch so the coop at 520 sq. ft. would be fully utilized. Then each batch included extras.![]()
