Yay!! We had our barred rock start a few days ago and white leghorn start about two and a half weeks ago. It's so exciting and unexpected to open the nesting box to find a little egg waiting to be collected! Also our 7-year old Ameraucana started up again after a few months, so now we're getting 5-7eggs per day! We have two pullets that are a couple months old and I can't wait till they start!! Then we'll be getting nine eggs per day! I won't even know what to do with all of them! How many chickens do you have?

That is awesome!! We have 5 chickens, but how am I able to figure out who laid there first egg today? I have 2 golden comets, 2 Rhode Island reds and 1 barred rock.

Well, we used to have a RIR, and I think she layed light brown-tan eggs. The one in your pic looks more tan, so I would say the barred rock. Are all of them just starting to lay? Our BR had a couple kinda dark eggs, kinda like that.

That's exciting!! :hugs
I'm assuming one of your Golden Comets laid it, because it looks darker...the Barred Rock should lay tan eggs, and the RIRs should lay light(er) brown. Plus, Golden Comets are fast maturing, pretty early layers, while Barred Rocks generally start laying at 20 to 22-weeks old, I believe...with eighteen weeks being the earlier exception, and 24 weeks being the later exception. :)
