It is 7 degree and my furnace broke

Do you own a tent? Do you own sleeping bags? It may sounds silly but put up a tent in the warmest room and then sleep inside it. It'll help retain the heat from your bodies/breathing until the daytime.

BTW - is that -16C or -16F? Very different until you get to about -45.

GREAT idea about the tent and sleeping bag! Yes, that will really help to keep you warm..

No tent but it sounds like a good idea. My son had one but when he moved out, he took it with him. He did leave his sleeping bag and I have been using that unzipped on the bed as a quilt. Yes, -16* F and that is with no wind chill factors.

Is there any family member, friend, any church, salvation army, red cross ??? that you call for assistance or to provide temporary living quarters until there's some heat?

wow crazy...last year our furnace gave out at -19C and it was really cold. we took and the blankets and the 2 kids, dh and I slept in our queen size bed it was a bit crowded...lol..but the body heat and the the blankets kept us warm. we gave the dogs all of our sleeping blankets for the floor just so they wouldn't have to sleep on a very cold floor.

the next morning we turned the oven on and left the door open a crack. making sure the kids knew not to touch the oven. we then went and picked up an electric fireplace until the furnace got fixed. Our insurance will not cover us with a wood stove.

I don't know what kind of oven you have, but if it's gas PLEASE don't use it for heat, that is very dangerous! You can get carbon monoxide poisoning that way.

I really think ya'll should consider going to a family members house, or a motel or something for a bit. It would be much more comfortable, not to mention safer.

The lows were lowered -20* F for tonight (-29*C). I have animals to take care of and I fear I will be taken from my home permanently if I leave. And, no, I am not one of these people you see in the news living in filth with 15 dogs and 20 cats. It is more complicated. I DO have an electric blanket. Never tried it on the higher numbers. But it had a good test run last night. Though a LOT colder tonight. I hope everyone else is managing through this. Newer gas stoves should be OK to run for a few hours. They have low oxygen sensors and blowers/fans but but still never should be on while sleeping or more than a few hours.

Well we are on day 3 of no heat. My repair guy came yesterday and after well over an hour all he could find was issues with the circuit board. He is going to get another tomorrow, but if it is not that well we all know what that means!

Atleast I got the fireplace going so the living room is a toasty 60-62 degree.I put a bed in here for the kids.My room was 46 today and the kids 51.House seems to loose 10 degrees a day.

Dh stopped through for the night and picked up some electric heaters, but they keep tripping the breakers. I do use it to warm up the bathroom a bit.The toilet is like an ice cube!

It is going to be 0 tonight. My poor chickens! I did cry a bit after the repair guy left, but I am feeling better now. Just have to deal with it. Just hope this won't happen again for a long time.Well I am sure this won't,but something else will break!

My mom replaced her electric heating/cooling system BEFORE her 20+ system broke. She also replace her water heater before it broke. I told dh for years to replace the 20+ year old water heater, but he refused.Well ofcourse one night it broke while he was gone, and flooded the house, and then the gas leaked.Big mess. If only he had listened to me,lol.

Keep warm everyone!!!!!
