It is awfully hard

Everyone is molting here, too. I'm getting an egg or 2 a day. Next spring will be a great time to send you some eggs! Silly family objecting to chicks in the house. (Although DH has banned chicks in the house, too.) I brood outdoors in rabbit cages, even when the weather's cold. I think I'm going to build the NellaBrooder with a built-in heat lamp for brooding outdoors...now I just need time for that. I've hardly done any hatching this year because of being busy with the baby.

The Silkies hatched about a month before I had the baby, so they're about 11 months now. I knew it took good quality Silkies longer to mature, so I'm not really surprised it's taking this long. I just want to build up their numbers, so I want to get hatching! They can go broody all they want this winter; it certainly won't be too hot!

11 months?!! Those little stinkers! Are you sure they aren't hiding the darn eggs somewhere? Sheesh. They should be laying by now. Brats. Good thing they are so sweet.

I love brooding in the house. I like hearing the sweet little chick sounds and I like to be able to check on them and talk to them. I always miss it when the brooder comes down. Apparently I don't have a very developed sense of smell.

Sadly, my mother has the nose of a bloodhound. She is VERY critical that the house smells funny. Meh. I only invite her over for Christmas and Fourth of July. The rest of the time we go to their house. I do have a bunch of friends over for a party in December. They love me too much to mention the smell, but I know it stinks. I'm trying to be better this year. No indoor babies in December this year. I figure they have put up with it for the last two years. This year I'll take a break. I'm downsizing numbers anyway. I can wait until spring to start over again.

I was seriously about to borrow my neighbor's goats and horse so we could find the swingset. And the vineyard. And the house. We eventually got it mowed, but goodness!

Well, the grass is cut. The dogs woke up and the cats moved on to greener (ie sunnier) pastures.

I actually love cutting the grass. It's just the getting out there to start part.

I didn't have one! Actually, you are welcome to them all. I'm not a big drinker. I'd rather just have a nice slushie.

The margarita reference comes from my sister. She was once giving me grief for not cutting the grass in neat orderly rows. There are so many things in the way to mow around here that the mowing pattern gets a little creative. Plus I get bored going in straight lines. It's a riding mower, so I can just zip around everywhere at will. The sister commented that all I needed now was a huge margarita glass in one hand and a funky straw hat on my head while I mowed.

I think a nice Strawberry Daquri would be a better mowing beverage. You could put it in one of these handy-dandy no-spill unbreakable cups and drink from a straw:
