My work is complete, I have successfully intergrated one single dominuque into my flock. It took alot of time, patience and room to do it without anyone getting seriously injured but its done. Time took over a month, I think I got her August 16 and just today I'm satisfied she's accepted by everyone. The hens were cool with her a couple weeks ago but the cockrel wasn't. Today I saw the first normal mating, no pecking, no flogging just unadulterated chicken love. Patience, I've had to have a ton. I have been separating this hen every night due to the cockrel's goofiness and the fact that the new hen liked to bite anybody who was too close. That's over now finally! Room, omg if I didn't get to free range these birds I never would have attempted this insanity! My newbie had to have space to run from the cockrel, my older girls needed space to escape the newbie just pure craziness. But my month of temporary insanity has paid off I've got one more beautiful happy hen in my flock and a few more gray hairs on my head. Anyone who wants to attempt a single bird introduction do know it is possible but my experience is nowhere near typical I got off extremely easy and I'm not complaining.![]()
Best birthday present ever! My tinfoil blocker worked and this morning after the flock had breakfast they all huddled into a little pile and preened! Everybody was preening together like it was no big deal whatsoever. No pecking, no avoiding the new girl like the plague absolutely awesome! Why they couldn't have done this a month ago is beyond me....weirdos.![]()
