IT JUST MOVED!!!!!!!

Hi Lurky - Did you have any other eggs in the incubator? Did anyone else hatch? Also, did you get your chicks from mypetchicken.com?

i ordered some silkie chicks from them last week when i was so depressed over my first set of eggs not hatching. Now i have 5 hatched so far, and more pipping. The mypetchicken chicks are being shipped on Tuesday. Interested to hear how your chicks managed being shipped.

I did have another egg....today is 24 and i saw movement inside by candling last night, but i dont dare open it because i am afraid to have 2 misfits.

OK......UPDATE on the 2nd EGG. I had DH open it and was not a pretty sight. It tried to grow....but did not finish. I am so glad i had ordered the bantams.....well i was glad anyway, but more so because poor little misfit wont be lonely. No more hatching for me. I'll leave that to the experts

No it was definately a defect. I called a hatchery and the guy confirmed and and said he was surprised it even lived. I dont know if you saw my post about misfit dying, but he did. To be honest, i think his leg got caught behind his head in the egg while developing and his head had to grow around it. To have seen him in person there was an indentation across the back of his head with a lump on top, and one under it on his neck too. But anyway i love your silkies.....they are sooooo cute. Do you have to actually cut their nails? Do people cut their hair? I wonder that because some silkies have wild and un-even hair and some look too perfect of a round ball of fluffy. I personally like the wild uneven ones.

Oh Lurky, i'm so sorry! i've been busy with my hatchlings and new arrivals from mypetchicken so haven't been on the board for a couple of days. That is so sad. He was such a cute little guy. i'm so sorry for your loss.

i'm not sure about trimming silkie hair - i don't think you need to. i had them once before, a long time ago. i guess i will have to see how it goes. i really like the wild hairdo thing myself.

i did order a white crested black polish female, and they ended up shipping two. Now on those you sometimes need to trim the front of their hair, so they can see. i may or may not be able to keep these two girls. The polish rooster i had (the picture i use as my avatar) needed to be rehomed - partially because he was a rooster, and mainly because my Ameraucana hen became fascinated with his crest and spent every waking minute yanking his head feathers out and eating them. i guess that's why they say not to keep Polish chicks with other breeds.

Anyhow, so sorry again.
