it seems there is hardly any fans of the rhode island red on here

I have 5 of them, wonderful chickens, smart too as 2 of them come to their names! They lay huge brown eggs on a nearly daily basis, yes, great chickens!

I have just 2 right now. RIRs are one of my fave breeds. I think they are gorgeous! I have one who I think is a cockerel and he is the most polite guy out there. He lets me hold him for quite some time and walk all around.

I hatched out 17 RC RIRs this spring. Got 9 ladies and 8 gentlemen. They are so laid back and inquisitive. Hatched 8 Buff Orps along with them and the BOs, although smaller than the reds, were the bullies. I love my beautiful Reds.
Just type in your search Rhode Island Red and there is lots of info to be found.

I have 10 RIR's, 2 roos an 8 pullets, and 4 RIW's, 2 roos and 2 pullets. I love them they all. They come running when I call them and one pullet just started laying an egg for me last Saturday.

I have two hatchery RIRs who are almost 3 yrs old and 4 breeder quality RIR pullets who are close to laying age. My head hen, a RIR, died in the last week or so. Its a good, solid breed. I think there are just so many breeds that the good old RIR doesn't get talked about much.

I think it's just a given that they are great, basic layer. No need to hype a good thing. My favorite is hen is a RIR.
