it seems there is hardly any fans of the rhode island red on here

I dove into the chicken thing with 2 RIR's. They stalk me, always around when I'm out there, and are awesome free rangers. They guard this yard better then my Rottie does. I hear they get to be about 8lbs. ? Is that true?

My roo is a rir and he is easily my favorite. He follows me around, he knows his name, and he is beautiful! And huge. Out of five cockerels I chose to keep him because his comb flopped over to one side-hence his name; Floppy.

I want more RIR but people keep talking me into other breeds

Lately I am a sucker for just about anything that goes "bawk bawk"!

I am looking for at least one RIR Cockerel. If anyone has an outstanding bird they would like to sell please notify me. I've gotten too old to get to the shows any more so this is my link to the world. A picture of the birds I'm breeding from now follows. I would like something of equal quality, or hopefully better.

I have 2 for sale but I dont know how far you are. I currently have 2 hens and 3 roos. I also have 3 EE's and my rir's are much clamer, you almost dont know they are there. You can find alot of info by doing a search on the web. I decided on them because its what my grandfather raised and they are a good fit for cold winters and warm summers we have here. I got my EE's for colored eggs of course.

i took a chance on RIR chicks after reading a fair bit of anti-RIR stuff right here on BYC. i've been pretty nervous, especially since i've decided that one of my pullets is actually a cockerel. there are a lot of RIR roo horror stories around here. i've been a little despondent for a few days about it, actually. i continue to be optimistic that we can integrate a rooster into our plan, but i worry. maybe i worry needlessly because i've heard a few thoughtful, heartfelt anecdotes about exceptional RIR roos, too. i guess time will tell.

of course, i also have read a lot of anti-BPR posts (especially hatchery BR) here and my four (hatchery) BRs are fantastic chicks, best of the bunch.
